Tick bites and Lyme disease

What is Lyme disease?

Lyme disease, or Lyme borreliosis, is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. If a tick bites an animal carrying the bacteria that causes Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi s.l.), the tick can also become infected.

Lyme disease, or Lyme borreliosis, is an infection caused by a group of spiral-shaped bacteria (spirochetes) called Borrelia burgdorferi s.l., which are transmitted to humans following a bite from an infected tick. [65] Ticks act as biological vectors of B. burgdorferi s.l.
